Sam is an experienced Early Years professional with expertise as an Early Years Lead and in Phonics and Early Reading who has joined QED as a Primary Education Consultant. Her area of expertise in improving Early Years provision spans a range of educational settings, including nurseries. As Early Years lead for Weaver Trust, Sam is responsible for raising standards across Early Years and in Early Reading and Phonics. She ensures the quality of education provided develops the whole child and prepares them for the next stage in their education.
Sam has developed a sequential, ambitious curriculum for children in the Early Years and has worked with leaders and teachers on the implementation. This curriculum has been developed through research into child development taking account of children’s unique individual starting points as well as their interests. She has delivered high quality continued professional development to leaders and staff across several schools to ensure they have sound knowledge of child development, the principles of the EYFS and implementation of the curriculum.
As an Early Reading and Phonics specialist, Sam has been instrumental in introducing a robust and sequential Ready Strategy and Phonics scheme across a number of schools. As part of the pilot for the Phonics scheme used, Sam was able to work with leaders and other professionals to develop a scheme that ensures children are taught to read fluently and supports early intervention to overcome barriers to learning for all children.
As a passionate Early Years professional, Sam is focussed on raising aspirations in the Early Years for all children using the core values of the EYFS.
